TX5RV – Raivavae – Austral Islands

Don, VE7DS and Dave, K3EL undertook a mini-dxpedition to Raivavae, (FO/A, Austral Islands, IOTA OC-114) from 30 October to 6 November 2013. The Austral Islands were at that time 44th on the Club Log “most wanted” list, very high for a fly-in destination, with a particularly low percentage of Club Log users having contacts on 10 or 12 m. Callsign was be TX5RV.

This was not intended to be a full-on dxpedition (we were travelling with our XYLs, hence spent some time away from the radios), but there was significant on-the-air time for approximately one week, running two medium-power stations with vertical antennas on the beach. 1. Worked a new IOTA Today within 6 hours of the operation starting VK5CE/4 on phone. He was working the propagation very well. I know it’s only VK but it’s a new one for IOTA, the same as TX5D Oc114 will be if I can work it on phone. Would keep the fingers crossed if the arthritis would allow. Good luck team TX5D. 73’s Phil G4WFZ
